Silk Sleep Report

What a silk pillowcase realistically does for your hair and skin

5 min read

Separating the measurable friction and moisture effects from the marketing claims about wrinkles and acne.

The claims that hold up

Lower friction means less mechanical stress on hair overnight, which shows up as fewer tangles and less breakage at the ends. This is the effect people notice fastest, often on the first morning.

Silk absorbs less moisture than cotton, so skincare stays where you put it and skin feels less tight in the morning. Pillow creases fade faster because the fabric slides with your face rather than gripping it.

The claims to be sceptical about

No pillowcase prevents wrinkles. Reducing repeated overnight creasing is plausible as a small contributor over years, but nobody has shown a pillowcase reverses anything.

No pillowcase treats acne. A clean, low-absorbency surface can reduce irritation along the jawline, but it is a supporting change alongside actual treatment.

How to judge it for yourself

Change one thing at a time. Keep your shampoo, skincare and room temperature constant for two weeks and photograph your face at the same time each morning. The pillow crease is the easiest variable to see.
